Children Services FAQ
What is the difference between differential (Alternative) response and traditional investigation?
Differential Response gives caseworkers the freedom to use an alternative approach when investigating some reports of child abuse and neglect. Instead of automatically beginning a traditional investigation, county agencies can choose to assess the needs of the child or family—in a non-threatening, non-adversarial manner—and offer services to meet those needs. With this method, the caseworker focuses less on the circumstances of the incident and more on the family’s overall needs. By mid-2014, all Ohio counties will offer this option. An alternative response is neither better than nor a replacement for a traditional response. It merely acknowledges that families have different circumstances that vary in severity and require different responses. In many cases, a traditional response is the only way to protect children from harm. In other cases, an alternative approach can resolve issues faster, more easily and with less disruption to children’s lives. For more information, visit http://jfs.ohio.gov/ocf/DifferentialResponse.stm.
Do you help with rent or utilities?
Children's Services has a program called Emergency Services Assistance. It is designed to help families in times of need regardless of whether you have an open case with the Agency at the time. The family must show proof of income, proof that they can maintain the payment if assisted, and copies of necessary documents. You can pick up an Emergency Services Application at the front desk or by talking with your caseworker.
How do i obtain custody of a child?

Reappraisals are done every 6 years and a review and adjustment is possible in the 3rd calendar year following the reappraisal.

No. In Ohio, tax value, or tax assessed value, is 35% of the appraised market value.
How were farms valued before this law was enacted?

How does cauv appraisal differ from fair market value?
The fair market value approach depends upon the comparison of sales of similarly situated farms and where the highest and best use sets value. The CAUV method depends upon capitalizing the expected net income from farming.
Will some farms have lower appraised values using the cauv?
